12214999 No.12214999 [Reply] [Original]

Just turned 20 a few days ago, /lit/. Feeling excited and apprehensive. What're some books I need to read before I turn 30?

>> No.12215009

you don't need to read anything

>> No.12215016

why the fuck would you waste your 20s reading books instead of having fun and getting laid?

go out and buy some drugs or something, dude. who cares about dumbass literature?

I mean, it's not like I'm not going to have fun. I enjoy drugs as much as the next guy. Sex is nice. I like reading. I turn to books for entertainment, solace, escape, a cold plunge into reality, a good sex scene, a stupid dick joke, all that shit. Any recs?

nice angelic trips. you get a reply.

you should read your diary desu. seriously, write your thoughts down. then a few years from now go back and read them. it will give you perspective, that stuff you need right now. what are your interests. "what books do i need to read" is a huge category.

just throwing it out there: Dostoevsky's the idiot.

Diary's a good rec. I've kept notebooks since high school. I suppose I oughta write in them more often. Right now I get through one every few months.

Interests?
I don't know, anon. I feel like I haven't experienced enough (or read enough) to really know what my interests are -- and I don't want to exclude anything because it doesn't fit what I think are my interests now. You feel?

I guess I'm asking for literally anything. I'm passingly familiar with most standard /lit/ fare, but I haven't read a good 2/3rds of what's discussed here. Like Dostoevsky. I haven't read anything by him. Thanks for the rec.

What's the best reading order for him? I've heard Underground > C&P > Brothers > Idiot/Possessed/Demons ?

I've only ever read The Idiot. It was great. I was a very late bloomer and identified quite a bit with Myshkin. I think it's important for any young person to read, if they haven't figured out people yet (by that I mean just formed a concrete opinion that is unlikely to change).

>No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
