"lucas chess" is a free UCI-Compatible Chess GUI and also has several different training modes for tactics

yes, if you choose volume over quality, you will only plateau early, as shown by most people in the top ten absolute solver statistic on chesstempo,. because they keep skipping the ones that would improve their baselevel and teach them something new.
