These threads are a good idea that always suffer from lousy execution, instead of cluttering up the frame with a thousand and one images JUST...PICK...ONE. It's supposed to be a setup for a punchline, there should be perhaps a subtle irony, or some unexpected sublimity from what was assumed to be unworthy material. Like somebody posting "Catcher in the Rye," what they expected is a picture of some dude leaning against a brick wall with a look of grim defiance, then what they got is a baby crying in a nursery. Or vice-versa. Or "American Psycho," and what was expected is a picture of Ted Bundy, and what they got is Lady Gaga in her dress made out of meat. Stop trying to be verbose, just express yourselves simply and honestly. You could have posted What I Read-Anabasis, What I Expected-*B&W photo of old, dry, bespectacled professor smoking a pipe* What I Got-*Poster for "300." Tell a joke, tell a story, this is /lit/.

I don't really go because I find these funny. The images that include collages are nice because it gives me an idea of some of the many things dealt with in a book.

This part of the book is exemplary for the whole book:

You are a samurai. Your trainee is buying food in the harbour and gets in a fight with a sailor. What should you do?

The books answer: The samurai ends both; His trainee for not being able to solve his problems in an adequate manner and therefore being a blamage to the landlord - and the sailor gets killed for daring to fight your trainee,

The book does not tell you, what the adequate bahaviour should have looked like.

i recently read the "Restored Edition" of A Clockwork Orange with all the "russian" words and it was very annoying. So this might be too... but I was asking whether or not the book is good. I'm probably going to read it cuz i have a copy.

I am new to lit.
Its really refreshing. German literature forums are overhelmingly stupideous nowadays; full of publishers who shill for their self.

Where are the German literature forums I'm currently in Germany and I'm trying to learn German. /lit/ can be incredible but only once ever so often after you've spent hours lurking through trash threads every week for the past three years of your life, continuing until you realize how much of your free time is spent reading garbage.

I doubt I even got all the terminology in the rhinoplasty chapter but I felt light headed when I read it - on the verge of passing out. Somehow that convinces me it was a particularly great passage. I loved V, I think the only thing that stopped me from giving it a full five stars was the Moby dick ending.(Although I suppose it was still bizzare enough to fit the overall narrative)

A lot of whining, neurosis, and entitlement. Still kind of a fun read, but don't expect to gain any insight into anything other than how unstable and insecure women who are well above average intelligence (yet still not brilliant) often are.
