Do you listen to music while you read, /lit/?

>> No.11885495

No. Listening to music while cleaning, studying, reading, cooking and so on should be banned as it decreases the amount of focus. Music is the worst kind of art.

Music is a thought parasite and should be limited to the most mindless of activities like working out or driving, even then i prefer silence. I am listening to murder rap right now because I can do whatever I want, anon, but you should listen to my sage advice regardless.

yes
mostly intrumentals or long-ass compositions:

Beethoven, Wagner, Morricone, anything jazz, Tycho, Nujabes, Aphex Twin, GYBE, Pink Floyd, Swans

Depends on what I'm reading. Literature, usually not. Music usually demands as much attention as literature, if not more because you can't easily go back and make up for something you skimmed. And evocative writing needs you to be able to see things through the mind's eye, which is interrupted too often by music unless it's something like ambient which I'm mostly putting on in that case to drown out noise. If I'm reading less intensive non-fiction or articles, I put on music, but even then only music that isn't all that challenging or which I already know by heart.

nope, it would be distracting
the modern addiction to always have music blasting meaninglessly in the background is annoying

I'm going to share with you some of my spotify albums, which I hear while reading.

The type of music depends also on what you read. While I read "The Godfather" it was nice to hear Oldboy OST:

Depends. But usually I listen to jazz on the background unless I'm reading scientific articles or write.

What about listening to music on its own?

No. I live outside and can listen to nature and when I pause to reflect on what I have read I can hear mother nature's perfect system in play and that helps me keep my thoughts based.

>be in literature class
>fat black guy with down's face sits in front of me
>he never contributes to literary discussion
>says he wants to be a novelist for a living
>says he's a music minor
>because he wants to write music that "goes with the mood of the novel"
