>tfw you are King David
>you want to obey God and be a good king
>You do a census of your soldiers
>God says you will be punished and you get to choose between a series of military defeats and a plague upon your kingdom
>it is NEVER explained why the fuck you would be punished for this
>No one is punished for a census anywhere else in the bible

Well yeah, the bible is shit and makes no sense. We figured this out a long time ago.

I wonder where the meme that atheists understand more about the bible than christians comes from. I never met a non-academic atheist whom I could actually have a nice conversation about religion without some random basic question about the bible popping up. Soon it always turned more into an interrogation than a discussion. Kinda the same that happens with people that do not understand evolution and still believes we came from chimps.

Dense motherfuckers. The king is not suppose to multiply gold, chariots, or wives. (Deuteronomy 17:6) The point of a census is to tax people and multiply your gold. Whenever David gets greedy or adulterously horny, God punishes him. Simple.

That shirt makes a mockery of Paul's Epistle to the Ephesians. Its absolutely disgusting. Chapter 5's detailing of proper family life is one of the most beautiful chapters in the Bible.
Who would wear such a thing?

Being Christian is an absolute - enough, Implying a spectrum upon ones 'Christianhood' does not make sense. You either have Faith onto Christ, as God and the redeemer, or you do not.

Now, personality is what governs how one protrays their faith, and how they act accordingly to their faith.
So you're really digging at their personality, which just shows you either are
-without personallity
-a follower of trends
- arrogant to other ways

One day I hope grace will come to me and I will be healed. Perhaps the same will happen to you Anon. I don't know where you are on your faith journey right now, but like recovering from addiction, this thing is not a linear process and I know I find myself relapsing into shitty habits over and over.

There's also a philosophical canon which includes every single major Western philosopher's most important works.

Also
"He (YHWH) took him (Abraham) outside and said, "Look up at the sky and count the stars--if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Genesis 15:5 NIV
The true number of the Israelites was later intentionally kept away from David, and I think his chief motivation for counting the descendants of Jacob at that time was purely for monetary gain. Yes there are points in the Torah that give lists of the number of the Israelites, however they were done up in regards to able-bodied men needed to wage a military campaign.
For what ever reason, at any rate, we can deduce that the Lord wanted to keep this information intentionally obscured from David's eyes at the time, probably because He knew David might abuse it. King David was familiar with this concept and even professes understanding at this dynamic that God occassionally takes with man.

Psalm 131 NIV:
A song of ascents. Of David.
1 My heart is not proud, LORD, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. 2 But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. 3 Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore.

Brothers, if David, the king of God's elected people through whom He would opt to bring salvation to the world, could stand to content himself with trusting in God and not raising his sights up to mimic the office of the Lord, surely we can do the same. God bless you all.

absolutely everything revolves, and in the most fundamental sense *is* this
you can even take the whole thing as completely literal, not in a historical sense, but as the underlying truth of your own subjectivity

underrated post. i am struck by the beauty of the biblical narrative in deconstructing ancient near eastern god-king heroic myths by having even the very best king of the Israelites, David, to become in the end a murderous adulterer, only for his descendent, Jesus, who finally embodies truly perfect kingship as God and Man. this is why Jesus is king of visible and invisible realms.

>> No.11872866

I mean thats not why, that's more or less a symptom of who he is. (God, the Son)
Unless you're implying the narrative of Christ is a work of man to define how the son's power redeems.
