Just read a bunch of stuff on the philosophy of mind. I have a dumb question.

If qualia are the subjective qualities of experience (seeing the colour blue when you look at the sky) and intentionality refers to the mental states which represent things in the world (thinking about the sky when you're indoors), then what is the following...

I utter the word "Joyce" to two people. One is a huge James Joyce and gets excited; the other has only heard of him and only registers an author's name. Their experience is completely different but they hardly qualify as "phenomenal qualities". I also wouldn't consider this intentionality since it's not just a mental state *about* something.

So what is this aspect in consciousness called?

well that would still be qualia. it's the subjective quality of the experience of hearing the word Joyce. qualia doesn't imply people have the same experience from the same stimuli (eg colour of the blue sky to someone who is colour blind).
