It depends on the type of book I'm reading, I don't have a specific go to songs for reading.

Depends on what I'm reading, yeah. If it's non-fiction, I usually read in silence and if it's a crazy ride like GR I'm currently reading then I listen to whatever compliments the atmosphere (expressionist classical music and 40s jazz).

I also don't listen to music while I read,

I was thinking of the first song to that album as I entered this thread. Kinda weird, though I do suppose there should be plenty fans of dream pop here like the Cocteau Twins and similar.

The jazzy stuff with sax is the best, dark and smooth.

Sunset Mission & Black Earth. I give the edge to Sunset Mission since 'Prowler' is on it.

If I'm reading analytic philosophy or science, then I prefer something clean, ambient, and slightly rhythmic, like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKeKj_e4eSk

For other philosophy or religion, I'd recommend are the "Traditional Music Channel" and "Marcel the Drunkard." Anything else usually gets silence.

Found out about them through /x/'s "unsolved mysteries" threads and they are perfectly cliche for hard-boiled detective novels. I can't imagine they'd be fitting for anything else, except something neutral, like reading a biology textbook on a rainy night. What do you read while listening to them?

when i listen to stuff while reading, i normally pick some downtempo/dub techno type stuff. nothing with lyrics but also no ambient since i often feel myself getting lost in the soundspaces.

I downloaded this chart from one of my friends from 4chan.org the other day, looking forward to go through it. I've listened to the 9th because of Clockwork Orange, and it really is wonderful.
I also really like Eric Satie and those "gymnopedies" and I fucking love tripping out to Phillip Glass.

I used to be able to listen to anything while I read. Then I found that I preferred no lyrics. Then simple, simple music (like Eno's ambient stuff). Sometimes I even just listen to static and other white/pink whatever noises.

I'm convinced it would help everyone's reading experience if they strived to be like this man of steel: >>11797509
