11743874 No.11743874 [Reply] [Original]

Just read this quote and thought it was quite inspiring. Tried to find where it's from, seems to be from his Revolt Against the Modern World.
But as ive started reading, it seems like an esoteric meme.

Should I even read Evola if I think his works are a meme?
Will I enjoy this book if I really liked Thus Spoke Zarathustra?
If yes, where do I get started with him?

The man was turned into a paraplegic by shell fragments, because he went out of his bunk for walks, to ''contemplate his destiny'' among the artillery shelling. He used to do occult stuff, but ended up becoming a Roman Catholic, I think.

where does this myth come from? ive heard it so many times but never seen it substantiated. seems very unlikely

Is he even worth reading if you compare him to Rene Guenon? Also, is he really an "ultra fascist" like he is often described?

Guenon and Evola are different. They're both worth reading. Schuon is the one I would avoid. personally.

> Should I even read Evola if I think his works are a meme?

Most writers are memes. Evola happens to be an intriguing one and has the quality of "not being fucking boring", which is rare.

> Will I enjoy this book if I really liked Thus Spoke Zarathustra?

Evola and Nietzsche are in conflict at many points (and in agreement in others), but both had a sort of fire in them. I think you'd enjoy Evola if you like writers with a bit of spirit.

> If yes, where do I get started with him?

RAMW is his most comprehensive work, but it's fucking dense. Some anons will recommend against starting there, but I actually think it's a comfy spot to jump in. I'm attaching a chart with a recommended reading order, take it with a grain of salt and just read whichever of his books seems most interesting to you.

Good luck, anon. Enjoy the journey, the black and red pills, the mindfuck and everything else that comes along with Evola. He radically changed how I view the world and I've only read maybe 1/4 of his works (and will continue to read more because I personally love him).

I've seen this one before and I don't really care for it for a few reasons. Firstly, Evola /can/ be read independent of Guenon. To suggest otherwise is to kind of stupid. Secondly, recommending Sedgewick before Evola is stupid too.

My real reading list for Evola is this: read what interests you. It's that simple. He is a dense writer and if someone isn't interested, they might lost heart. Telling someone to start with his book on magic is dumb, it's better for them to be convinced of a whole lot more before even trying to convince people about magic.

Also, let me add on top of this, Metaphysics of War is a bad book. It's just a collection of essays that Evola didn't assemble and whoever did is a fucking tool because most of the essays repeat themselves. Also, Meditations on the Peak is a bad book too. Another collection of essays but this one is repetitive and also, fucking boring.

Just read whatever you want. If you like one of his more serious works, you'll probably like the rest of his works. RAMW is actually a good place to stat because you get his most comprehensive view of the world and actually see where he is coming from. But it doesn't matter, jsut read want interests you.

sociopolitical views were probably the most interesting parts, and it's quite hard to talk about his religious views cause his main focus was western religions and mostly his books on eastern religions were translated. Not even half of his books if you include post-mortem are translated. What is translated and known are his religiopolitical and sociopolitical books.
>>11743874
read what interests you, I just finished Meditations on the Peaks in 3 days, it was a great read. Introduction to Magic as one anon said is a terrible fucking choice, I tried reading that and it's all practice no theory of religious functions.
If you want to live the wanderer lifestyle where you practice your theory and metaphysics, read one of his religious books that interest you, there are 4 (Mystery of the Grail, Hermetic Tradition, Yoga of Power, and Doctrine of Awakening), after that do Meditations on the Peak only if it interests you, no matter what do Metaphysics of War then his Pentalogy (Pagan Imperialism, Revolt Against the Modern World, Men Among the Ruins, Ride the Tiger, the Bow and the Club).
So the minimum is 3 books until RATMW, which I recommend. Don't focus on his religious stuff too much as it gets very similar
