Faulkner, Twain, Dickinson, Melville, Hawthorne, Hemingway, Emerson, Whitman, Stevens, Poe, Eliot, Pynchon, Steinbeck, James, Bellow, Flannery O’Connor, Dick, Chandler, Crane and McCarthy, not even a few of those are good enough for you?

I’d call at least Faulkner, Melville, and James worthy of being remembered just in terms of the entire history of the Western novel, not bad for being within one century and one country.
