Pre-Christian Hellenistic thought emphasized humanity above all else, and was concerned mainly with questions of human agency and experience. Stoicism and Epicureanism, for example, identified the ultimate good as the product of human virtue and pleasure, respectively, reflecting a wider trend of anthropocentrism going back all the way to Thales of Miletus and Xenophanes of Colophon, and sparing not even Plato. Paul showed the Athenians through their own recognition and acknowledgement of the unknown, which is to say everything beyond the limits of humanity, as the domain of a God previously undeclared to them, yet Who their poets already spoke something of, and still yet they knew as the unknown, that humans are not the center of existence, and so cannot adequately worship that God through their own productive activity, which is to say materially, which is what humanism ultimately boils down to, a vapid obsession with trifling things in the face of the eternal mystery. Paul showed them the limitless by showing them their limits.

Pls expand, I've studied both of these authors and don't remember anything specifically anthropocentic about them, Xenophanes even shat on his contemporaries for their anthropocentric gods.

That's the thinking in the Bible, which is consistently anthropocentric throughout, as opposed to Greeks' cosmocentrism.

The poets were the bigger pagans and polytheists than philosophers and playwrights, writing the myths of all these deities, with theophagy, theoxenia, human deities with human emotions and flaws. Not the philosophers. Read the Timaeus.

Insistence is not consistence.

Paul quoted a specific line. Forest meet tree.
>A foreign idea to slave-owners and apologists of the aristocracy. No wonder internet Christians attack the one thing Christianity got underway.
Humanism is not a synonym of humanitarianism.
>Like what, collecting afterlife points in order to achieve a heaven that does not welcome everyone, or a fear of eternal torment in a hell that does indeed welcome everyone?

At least the Greeks were better poets and artists than the Jews. The only book of the Bible that matches the level of someone like Aeschylus or Homer is The Book of Job. Then there’s all the philosophy, the sculpture, the paintings, democracy, the germs of the scientific thought and all the other gifts of the Greeks to human civilization.
Only a Christ-fag would think that Saint Paul is BTFOing anyone. After all, it would take the state machinery of Rome, the sword, the flames and the threats to actually help Christianity to expand. It’s just another religious system among many, but in this case one with a whole political and martial machinery behind it.
Oh, not to mention that the Greek myths are more interesting and full-blooded than the ones in the Bible. Not that the Bible doesn’t have some pretty entertaining stories, but even in this aspect the Greek world is more exuberant and colorful.

>cuck.

I don’t submit to anyone and don’t let any fears and agonies distort my view.
In your case, you are glad to accept premises without any single shred and dust-speck of evidence only to feel comfortable and tranquilize your anxieties. You don’t do it for love of other, you don’t do it for compassion, you don’t do it for the world: you do it for yourself. All your blind faith comes from fear and egocentrism ("I'm too important to keep existing. My daddy and mommy cannot really die. There must be another form of reality, we can't be created simply to cease. There are people who do wrong things and they deserve hell. But I and the ones I love will sure be saved, etc, etc, etc".

The cuck here is you. You submit to the will and visions of others simply because you are fearful little goblin. Typically submissive life-style.
