I can only explain it from my perspective.
Most of the Fantasy books I've read are narrative focused.

IMO Wolfe writes in excellent prose and an unconventional way (for fantasy/scifi)
I regard it as literature even though it's labeled as genre fiction.

Not really no. Peace is wolfe's favorite of his own work and Neil Gaiman is a big fan of it too. It doesn't even have the excuse of being written when he was still finding his footing. Goes to show you how low the bar is in fantasy and science fiction.

I hate this book with a fucking passion. A somewhat interesting story being interrupted every five minutes by some fag in Florida who's crazy, muh spinning typography, and like 6 appendixes. And it's also like $30.00 because it's a complete scam.
