No, it (along with most of the other POV chapters excepting J.O.I.) makes no sense within the context of the book because DFW normally has no problem with using pretentious language in his prose and then putting in an endnote that says "X didn't actually say Y" which makes Wardine Be Cry an incompetent attempt at ebonics and cringe as fuck when you remember what the author looks like i.e. OP.

I definitely encourage you to watch that interview where he's in a hotel. If he was completely boisterous and egocentric in that interview, I'd agree with you. But after watching that interview, I'm more inclined to believe the dude stayed up 40 hours deliberating on whether or not to include that passage, then another 40 on whether or not to include a disclaimer.
