STEMfag here

I don't like to shit on philo majors too much but how do you guys read that shit? It's so dry and boring and exists only in abstract - it never evolves along with humanity. Fiction can be just as philosophical and entertaining.

That was your first mistake anon.

if someone who had never studied your subject beyond a very elementary degree decided to share a very uninformed and factually incorrect opinion on why its bad how would you react? would you perhaps think that person was a retard?

he wouldnt care
because nature exists regardless of what a continental philosopher thinks about it. and the fruits of engineering are all around us, and self evident.
and if it were me, i would point out the irony of the philosopher using a computer to shit on engineering.

PHILOSOPHY IS A TRADITION, IS ITS HISTORY, YOU DON'T READ THE POST-MODERNS WITHOUT HAVING THE MODERNS, AND YOU DON'T READ THE MODERNS WITHOUT HAVING READ THE MEDIEVALS, AND SO ON. IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND IS BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE THE PREPARATION

dont you see any irony in communicating thoughts via language that are critical of the concept of philosophy

That you're asking this question at all suggests you aren't very familiar with philosophy. You're not the only STEMfag on /lit/. I have a physics degree and I know there are lots of others with STEM degrees too. But when you come in here shitting on philosophy without even knowing what it is you just make us look bad.

Aspire to be like the men on the left of this pic, not the guys on right.

No. Or it is shallow or it is wasting words while not accomplishing philosophy or literature.

Idk I find all academia boring as fuck to be honest. How can you unironically find science or any subject interesting after the initial honeymoon phase and realize that you have zero chance on working on anything substantial and that everything leads to the dead end of doing something so ridiculously specific that literally 0 people will ever give a shit

I'm not gonna say what I do specificially b/c doxxing, but this isn't true for every part of academia. The particular field of STEM (I'm not OP btw) has about 150 to 250 active people. The joy comes from being part of a community of smart people who share your interests and, for me at least, being able to compete for dominance within this small pack.

most STEM jobs aren't full of attractive women (thank God for affirmative action), and most of them don't tolerate aspie behaviour either. There's also a certain nobility in being part of the priestly caste in our modern religion of scientism.
