Why is /lit/ turning into /x/? I've seen like dozen of occultism, esotericism or plain chaos magick threads last week. Is it a natural follow-up to the traditionalism vogue?

/lit/ used to be chock full of gnostics who crossposted on /x/, probably because of Bloom, and the remaining materialists argued between Marx and Ayn Rand. The Marxists started idolizing Zizek, and Randfags lost faith in capitalism, becoming the first people to discuss Stirner since Ernst Junger. The Gnostics, meanwhile, were replaced by competing Catholics and Evola posters who started off just spamming fedora memes but gradually fell down the mysticism rabbit hole.

You're witnessing the revival of a deep spiritual strain in mankind that the world hasn't seen in hundreds of years. You should be happy that the dogmas of the Fourth Estate are finally being rejected and that mankind is attempting once again the Herculean feat of spiritual resurrection in a world as numb as this one. The tide is slowly turning in our favor once again.

That said, I'm not too sure occultism is a positive way to direct our energies. Only time will tell.

If you think about it, Catholicism is a cross-board topic. You have /lit/ for literature, philosophy, and theology. You have /his/ for more all-encompassing religious discussion and apologetics. You have /pol/ for discussion of what's actually happening at the Vatican, and among actual Catholics worldwide. And you have /x/ for the 'spooky' side of Catholicism, the healings, miracles, and apparitions, which are more prevalent in it than in any other branch of Christianity. There's even a few anime that are Catholic-relevant, like Hellsing, so that's /a/ covered.

Catholicism truly is 4chan's ideal branch of Christianity.

>That said, I'm not too sure occultism is a positive way to direct our energies.

there's really no other way to go, the progress of science has made it more and more impossible to seriously subscribe to more organized, well-defined religions and spiritualities, because the more well-defined something is, the more open it is to the teeth and claws of skepticism. definite claims can be definitely challenged. occultism and mysticism are harder for those claws to rip into because they're less well-defined, make much softer claims and can often hide behind a rationalization; "i don't literally believe in the tarot, i just see it as a _______." this makes it the best refuge against the ever-stronger beast of rationality for those who wish to see magic in the world.

So the connection between sentimentalism and rationally would be that "rationality" as a sort of idolatry is overly sentimental in itself and doesn't sufficiently take into account the limitations of reason? But the "sentimental (hyper)rationalist" would just respond that you can only intimate that selfsame "sentiment" by using the above reasoning.

Guenon is sometimes very meandering and dense in his writings, especially when not talking specifically about eastern doctrines. I still love him though and I gladly accept wading through his run-on sentences as an acceptable cost of reading his books. Pic related are some pages of East and West where he mentions it, although you really have to read the whole book to get a good sense of it. The two pages in the top row occur after one another early in the book and then all the ones in the bottom row occur one after another about midway through the book.
