I am reading Harry Potter for the first in my life. Why did Harry learn the Accio spell to summon his broom when he could have used it to draw the Golden Egg towards him?

>> No.11187659

>"reading" harry potter
You're not. You're just looking at words and imagining a bad fantasy movie

>> No.11187661

You can't use magic on the snitch cause it's representative of the archetypal humans' search for meaning and inclusion and there's no shortcut to that, bucko, so that's that.

Oh you said the golden egg. Just replace "snitch" with "golden egg" in my statement and it'll be ok

>> No.11187690

it's traditional to find the egg. plus you can't just accio anything, you have to have a good mental image and understanding of it

I'd accio malfoy's undies otherwise

>>11187617
It's charm resistant, and I'm pretty sure this is stated explicitly

i have a question. what's wrong with you? it seems like the most popular way to engage with fiction today is this bizarre hunt for imaginary plotholes where you put yourself in a character's position, imagine doing better than them and complain that this is not what happened. people who can't string together a coherent sentence on what a movie or book is actually about can talk for hours about the characters not acting in what they think is the optimal way. where does this come from? is it videogames? have they cooked your brain so much you can't engage with anything without treating it like a youtube playthrough that would be going better if only you were the one playing? explain this to me.

Where? Post quote.

If you try to find consistency in Harry Potter's magic system you're fucked. There's no rhyme or reason and Rowlings creates spells to literally deus ex machina Harry out of danger. Really, enjoy it without thinking and you might salvage something from the series.

"Enjoying it without thinking" might be a bit regrettable if you take into consideration things like Snape foreshadowing his true allegiance in the very first Potions class.

well, anon, like it or not it's a good book for its target demographic, and, if OP wants to pursue writing as a career or if he simply likes to enjoy reading, Harry Potter is great (:!

By the way, what's your opinion on Merula? I think she is cute!

>> No.11189061

Probably because the egg is enchanted in such a way by the organizers of the tournament that it resists the accio spell. So the triwizard candidate will have to think of a different way to get to it.

Its the same when harry tries to summon the horcrux in the cave at the end of tge sixth book and it doesnt work. Voldemort enchanted the object here as well

>> No.11189121

>>11188876
Shit, you're right. I apologize. It's so obvious I assumed I had read it (it's been many years). Still, I'm sure there was a charm on the egg (like there was on the Locket and the contents of a Gringotts vault) so that you can't simply summon it. It was never explicitly stated, but if it were that simple, Cedric wouldn't have bothered to transfigure a rock into a dog, he would have just Accio-ed it. Kinda defeats the purpose of the task as a whole.

I agree, I've seen this phenomenon as well, except I think it's actually sincere. I have a friend who always asks about perceived plotholes in the media he consumes, (and always with a slight smirk as if he's quietly getting off to it,) and one day I asked him "Didn't you tell me you enjoyed this [film/book/article/etc]? Some of this sounds like mocking criticism."
He answered that really he sees it as just a way to begin a conversation about things he likes. It's a better alternative than simply saying "wasn't it awesome when X character did Y?" and such discussions.

You haven't read many YA franchises. There's stuff out there that makes Rowling look like Milton.
