Start with the more normally formatted ones until you get a feel for how he uses typography. And don't overthink it, for example l(a is a great poem but it's really not that complicated.

I honestly don't understand how /lit/ can hold a belief in a western canon whenn it is painfully obvious that pseud hacks like this are hailed as geniuses.

Your Aristotle, your Plato, your Homer, these are just the Rupi Kaurs of their day. And so are any alternatives I would hold up in their place.

I quite enjoy the form of William Blake's poetry but sometimes I fear his self-indulgent and incoherent mysticism is Rupi Kaur tier.

I should expect /lit/ of all places to lack basic reading comprehension. My lament was that the things I treasure most are just pop culture constructions and not actually better than Rupi Kaur. The best and brightest /lit/ of centuries past is long dead and gone forgotten and unknown.

I read him for the first time in this thread and think he's great. I'm not american, so I've missed him until now. What a grave mistake.

There is beauty in this, and genious as well, you must understand this.

Literature is all but democratic. If you don't know the difference between the poem below and Rubi Kaur then maybe you shouldn't be allowed to read books in the first place.

life is more true than reason will deceive by e. e. cummings

life is more true than reason will deceive
(more secret or than madness did reveal)
deeper is life than lose:higher than have
—but beauty is more each than living’s

allmultiplied by infinity sans if
the mightiest meditations of mankind
cancelled are by one merely opening leaf
(beyond whose nearness there is no beyond)

or does some littler bird than eyes can learn
look up to silence and completely sing?
futures are obsolete;pasts are unborn
(here less than nothing’s more than everything)

death,as men call him, ends what they call men
—but beauty is more now than dying’s when

My father moved through theys of we,
singing each new leaf out of each tree
(and every child was sure that spring
danced when she heard my father sing)

then let men kill which cannot share,
let blood and flesh be mud and mire,
scheming imagine, passion willed,
freedom a drug that’s bought and sold

giving to steal and cruel kind,
a heart to fear, to doubt a mind,
to differ a disease of same,
conform the pinnacle of am

though dull were all we taste as bright,
bitter all utterly things sweet,
maggoty minus and dumb death
all we inherit, all bequeath

and nothing quite so least as truth
—i say though hate were why men breathe—
because my Father lived his soul
love is the whole and more than all
