Good news boys, I've read every book and made a cheat sheet for you. Here's everything you need to know out of literature.

Thanks for the summary, OP. I'll make sure to channel my understanding of those distinct texts through your limited ideological lenses, trying my best to restrict my conceptions of those works through memes and shitposts. I wonder where I'd be without such a handy guide.

Okay. Regarding, DFW, why do you simplify his concerns about addiction and obsessions with entertainment through a reductive assertion to not watch TV?

Why do you collapse Proust's attempts to reconstruct an entire life and thereby reflect on how consciousness comes into being and understands itself into an injunction simply to remember shit?

Why do you reduce Dostoevsky's meditations on morality and culpability to a simplistic biblical injunction?

Why do you equate ancient philosophical grappling to pederasty?

And so on, and so on.

1.
I think that TV plays the biggest role in regards to what DFW has to say about addiction. For him, the television was this placid isolating banality that we use to reduce the pain of existing, or making effort to exist. His view of drugs was the same, that eventually they merely become this shadow of a former thing that keep wishing and wishing would make us feel something, but know it won't.

2. Honestly, the biggest take away from In Search is that memories are precious and the absoloute beauty of discrete and quiet moments of our personal memories (which no-one else has access to, and are as brittle as us) are totally invaluable. I definitely think this is the absoloute core of that work, and is reduced upon a comedic manner in the words " 'member shit "

CONT..

It isn't biblical, that's not what I'm saying, nor Dostoevsky. Pretend morality does not exist and make yourself God, go ahead... and pay the concequences. OR, know what the concequences are before hand, and have the forsight that if you don't like your mind or God now you sure as hell aren't gonna like them after you kill someone - and then, don't do it.

4.
That was just a shitpost. Don't fuck people under the age of consent, obviously.

This is more like it. Meaningful commentary on specific aspects of those works. Now the question is why you felt compelled to construct a shitpost instead of positing these concerns in separate posts. By doing so, you could have helped raise the level of discussion on this board, but for some reason, you felt more comfortable trimming your thoughts and presenting yourself as less thoughtful than you are. I wonder why. Having finished those works, what do want to read now?

They reply that way because they're trying to provoke you, anon. Ignore those people, and respond to those worth your attention. I'll try to be such a person. I think DFW's focus on TV is due only to the period in which he wrote Infinite Jest. The themes and concerns about entertainment extend much further than that medium. I haven't read Proust in his entirety, so I can't comment on him. I've read only Notes from Underground, and I think your commentary on the old Russian is more in line with Brothers from what I understand, so I unfortunately can't comment on that either. Again, I'm curious about what you're reading now that you've gotten the big boys out of the way.
