The aim for a communist society is to eliminate class-based society and industrialize enough that most work is done as a means of self-fulfillment then out of need. The motto “From each according to his needs, to each according to their abilities” implicitly acknowledges that some have more need than others because it is illogical to assume that communism would erase things such as some being born strong and others being crippled or some being smart and others being dumb.
