>a-at least reading books improved your life
No! After reading Siddhartha I have ascended into the mental state. After I read it, I noticed that every time I went for a walk, I thought to myself "I am energy and am simply stretching my legs that do not exist in the mental state."
I began marking on the back of my non existant mind every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked it several dozen times. I was incredulous. My mind is now governed by metaphysical energy, metaphors and one is all. I am nothing now, I am all. I am Hermann Hesse like he is me.

Notes from Underground, Stoner, and unironically Infinite Jest as it prompted me to get sober. Every book I've read has had some effect on me though.

The Sot Weed Factor made me realize that by abstaining from a lot of things I'm just limiting my experiences and retarding my emotional growth. I haven't really changed anything though, so nothing's improved. I just feel guilty for the way I act now rather than proud of myself.

>> No.11071196

yes it did. i used to see my job as a waste of time, but now i see it as a way to make the world a better place. i try to make more out of every interactiom. i smile more. i keep my posture better. im losing weight. my writing is improving and so is my satisfaction

All of which are big reasons why this board is fucking garbage.

Rare case of everyone but OP is a faggot, including me because I keep coming back here.

There is no book that can change your life on its own. Take Meditations for example, you'll probably read it once, feel motivated / inspired for a week or two and then go back to your normal lifestyle. In this context for stoicism to work you have to read it over and over again until you know it by hearth and consciously apply it in your everyday life.

>> No.11073198

>>11072974
It doesn't have to necessarily change the way you act on a day to day basis. But you perseption and understending of life.
Examples:
Schopenhauer - The world as will and representation. Changed my outlook on the human condition, and the impossibility of finding a permanent state of happiness (specifically the 58 chapter of the second volume).
Pirandello - One, No one, One Hundred Thousand. Made me reevaluate my own sense of identity and the perception that others might have of me.
