The Inferno is by far the most interesting section of the Divine Comedy, with the rest being dull padding, given the relative nature of its subject matter. Lautreamont's well-timed death was both a brilliant career move and also spared us any Purgatorio or Paradisio he might have attempted.

Edgar Allan Poe (died at 40. Only wrote two full length novels, one of which was never completed.)
Franz Kafka (died at 40. Didn't become famous until after he died. Only wrote three full length novels and he never completed them.)
George Orwell (died at 46. Died less than a year after 1984 came out so he barely got to enjoy his newfound fame.)
H.P. Lovecraft (died at 46. Didn't become popular until several years after his death. Only wrote one full length novel and he wasn't satisfied with it.)
Philip K. Dick (died at 53. Never got to finish the VALIS trilogy.)
