11000171 No.11000171 [Reply] [Original]

Critchley mentioned that an "attack on the universities initiated by Thatcher's government in the early 1980's" prevented the integration of more holistic curricula being instantiated in higher institutions. In effect it prevented the end of the idiotic divide between the continental and analytic traditions.

What did he mean by this?

I don't really care about this as an academic issue but I'm all for throwing more sins into the old bitch's lap so yeah, she's definitely guilty for it too.

>idiotic divide between the continental and analytic traditions

How come this divide is idiotic?

Save for Habermas, I find absolutely no value in a single word continental has uttered. I'm very glad this divide still exists. I wouldn't have tried to major in philosophy if I had no choice but to avoid Heideggerian bullshit being forced up my throat.

I'm still looking for a single valuable non-continental thought in philosophy. It's like looking for bigfoot. Any pointers?

Russel, Frege, Early Witt, Both Strawsons, The entire analytic tradition in aesthetic philosophy. At least analytic is readable. Conti is obscurantist, unreadable, pseudo intellectual trash of no value to anyone. It gives good philosophy a bad name. Phil grad student here.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. What do you think of when you think of analytic philosophy? You've gone wrong somewhere bud. I respect a good trade but if you're just reading a few books in your own time you're really not going to get a good grasp on philosophy.

Then Gödel came.
