Currently working my way through the Witcher Novels, never played any of the games but I'm a fan of these type of fantasy novels and I'm really enjoying each book thoroughly so far. What is /lit/'s opinion of the series? (Try to keep it spoiler free)(yeah I know it's amazing I made it this far unspoiled)

It's been a while since I read two of them, but while they were entertaining, they seemed very poorly translated to me. It's been too long to give any examples though. Did you notice something similar? I read it in English btw.

Laughably bad, even by the genre's standards.

Just play the game. I'm not into vidya that much, but it's pretty cool.

pretty nice as long as you don't have high expectations

He is right though. The game is good for its medium, the novels are mediocre and awkwardly translated

Reading time is better spent elsewhere.

The final book has around 7 different narrators or something, it's fucking bizarre.

A collection of tropes and "ironically" plagiarized concepts mixed into what reads like the author's aimless, masturbatory self-insert trip. Beyond any sense of continuity or purpose, the Witcher series completely lacks respect both towards the genre as well as the readers. By labeling yourself a fan of these books, you also admit to being the absolute moron Sapkowsky seems to think you as.

The video games are actually better written.

Aren't POV also in Song of Fire and Ice?

Last Wish was solid work. I agree with you on saga.

I thought the first two books were alright. Are the other books of similar quality?

learn Polish and read it in Polish.

it's probably terrible in translation, I think it's specifically a Polish twist on fantasy and written for Poles who grew up reading the historic Polish literature

there's no way for all the subtle irony and stuff to survive the translation into English, the titles alone sound retarded when translated

in original Polish the first two books are nice from what I remember, entertaining and often funny to read
