How do you get better at writing essays?

step 1: be good at english naturally
step 2: let that fact carry you through public school and most of college
step 3: realize that writing essays is a useless skill

this.

if you're lucky you'll have written a thousand or so before you finish school and you can have them published as juvenilia when you get famous. sort of like harlan ellison including those shitty jokes he wrote when he was fifteen, in "the essential ellison".

brainstorm, form vague thesis, write arguments with supporting text to develop thesis into something robust, have final, real thesis. Done.

The trick is to write your arguments first and pull your thesis from your arguments. Not the other way round.

I closed two businesses using four essays to support our argument.

I disagree. Mastery of the subject material is more important. A master of writing that is entirely ignorant of the subject matter at hand cannot write anything of import regarding that topic.

Write a lot of them and use whatever journal databases your uni is subscribed to to fluff out your text with arguments from the opposite side.
