Any good books on the history of Freece and Rome? Mydad is very interested in those topics and I wanted to make him a gift for his birthday, but I dont know where to start.

I'd prefer a single book that compiles the most important events rather than 10 different books as an introduction.

A history of Greece to the death of Alexander the great by J.B. Bury

I don't think you will find any serious work that covers the greeks and the romans. Too much stuff, and too much important stuff in the history a both. A volume containing a "brief" history of both shouldn't have less than 2000 pages.

The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire for a great read instead of just boring history. Its just one book, although it has like 3500 pages kek

Two amazing ones are George Grote's "History of Greece" and Theodor Mommsen's "History of Rome". Don't know how easy it is to find them though.

Fpbp. Willy Durant is always the best when it comes to history.

And both have many volumes.

Rise of Rome by Anthony Everitt is an excellent and easily digestible book that chronicles Rome's, well, rise. Follow it with his biographies of Cicero and Augustus for good Christmas and Father's day gifts.

Oh! And if you feel that Grote or Mommsen are not what you're looking for, go for Fustel de Coulanges' "Ancient City". It is a study on the religious, familiar, political and general customs of greeks and romans - and a true classic.
