My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near

its starting to occur to me a large vocabulary is basically useless unless you write. What's the point of knowing a lot of words people are going to need you to define anyway? I might as well just make up words.

Tips on passing the Russian test on the same site: just pick the same answers. All of the questions are a literal translation from English test. They just diddn't care when a synonym/antonym pair were translated as cognate words. Or when it was a big stretch to call the transladed pair synonyms/antonyms. Or when translation resulted in grammatically possible, but unusable form of a word. Or that the pool from which translations were picked contained common words only. "You can be next Pushkin", my ass.

For some reason they used a lot of words that I'm fond of. This is the first time I've seen "fugacious" in a while, which I really like. (It's like evanescent but less well known. Fug- like "run" as in "fugitive," or to play a "fugue" where your fingers run fast across the organ keys...) There were a few I didn't recognize though (Avulse?" I know I've come across inveigle before but I couldn't remember what it meant.)

There's this really fun essay by Anne Fadiman in her book "Ex Libris" where you finds a bunch of insanely esoteric words and then quizzes people she knows about them. (Basically extinct words, not easy ones like in this quiz.) I think she basically came to the conclusion that people with any kind of background in knowing Greek or Latin typically can suss out the meaning of the words (I think so anyways, it's been a while since I've read the essay.)

Yeah that's pretty much why I don't use big words unless there's something extraordinarily specific that needs to be said that requires the precise word. There are a lot of "fancy" words that people understand the meaning too though, or they can pick up the meaning through context.

Michael Thomas talks about this in his language courses. In the KJV it says "For they know not what they do" as opposed to modern usage it would be reframed as "for they do not know what they are doing "

"know not" part of the sentence is a lot like how other European languages structure their sentences.

It makes sense that KJV would be the easiest for a foreigner to read because of the sentence structure. I've heard countless stories of people learning English by reading the KJV. I even knew an old man who did this himself.

Are you fucking retarded? 128 IQ is insanely high, probably 0,01% of the world pop.

You are however a brainlet for thinking I matters.

that doesn't actually follow at all.
[dick]and the fact that you made this inference suggests, if anything, that your actual iq is nowhere near as high as you think it is [/dick]

Lel vocab was one of the lowest thing on my iq test (6/20) but I still got over 120 due to symbol searching being 19/20. Probably cause I'm a sperg and spergs have limited vocab but not always though. For reference I could recite the whole alphabet at 2 but only started to read properly at like 10 but I can read up to Focault and understand abstract concepts now but it's hard to absorb new words.

120, the clinician didn't want me to get a score because my intellectual sub-groups were so split but I wanted to know. It was Weschler and I got 112 verbal (noting that I scored horribly on vocab), 102 on matrixes (not arithmetic), 110 working memory and 133 on PSI (processing speed). Definitely did way below expectation on matrixes and working memory considering that I excel in math. But that may be because it's the only subject I am truly interested in.
