I don't know if anyone ever made a reliable chart, there's a lot out there, but some of it too academic for my tastes.

I've recently been thinking that I should join a tradition, and I've been considering becoming some sort of mahayana buddhist. Mahayana because of the devotional and ritual aspects. Maybe Zen, as I plan to move to Japan (inb4 "cringe").

Though there are so many points of contention between traditions, philosophically speaking, that I'm afraid that i'll choose one which i'd later disagree with. Another fear is commiting to a tradition and slowly loosing the connection to the faith (when I choose one path, other paths tend to look more appealing, i guess that maybe just the new shiny externalities; something I can't have winning my attention).

Further, are there any unbroken mahayana lineages available to join?

Thanks frens :)
