Sabriel
The magician books by trudi canavan
the Mistress of Empire series.

The magician ones are YA and Mistress of empire is only decent but certainly not terrible imo. Sabriel is extremely based, although technically YA, one of the comfiest series around and even though its pretty old now the ideas still feel fresh and interesting.

good books with a female main character written by a woman though? No.

YA but the Abhorsen series has good necromancy. Don't bother after the first three books though.

Is this where the girl dresses up like a guy

I wrote a letter to this guy when I was a kid and he replied. Good books

>>9956262
Yes, I barely remember these. Deltora quest too

This is a good idea. What are you going to give your kids to read, anon? I don't know what the state of kids books is right now

>>9959360
the fuck happened in the last book tho

this was garbage

I think for a lot of these books, authors stuck to a premise for the first few and then did whatever they wanted for the rest, because at that point their kid following would read it anyway.

Something pretty good and unique. The cover art is also excellent, at least it used to be.

No Garth Nix? I still like his books now honestly, the Abhorsen series was such a unique take on the fantasy genre and had a pretty cool focus on necromancy.

He also had the 'Keys of the Kingdom' series, which was pretty great in my opinion. Gets pretty dark too. Has to deal with the entire universe being dissolved into nothing and the main character has to defeat the rulers of the house that let the universe go to shit. With 7 books each themed after the days of the week I would say it was worth a look if you still have a thing for dark youth fiction.

This was a nice trilogy. A different kind of necromancer. Interesting lore and magic systems.

It's world is kinda like Neil Gaiman's Stardust, in the sense that there is another world on the other side of a wall where magic exists.
Only in this case, The Old Kingdom was once a world of it's own and the inhabitants sewed part of their world to ours to save itself or something; it was a vague origin story. For some reason machines and guns don't work in the old kingdom, even paper unravels into pulp unless it was handmade.

The main trouble is the dead things that comeback to life. And it's the MC's duty to send the dead back to the plane of death, which is an ice river with 9 gates. The river's properties change beyond each gate. The deeper levels mutate the dead into horrors.
Necromancers use bells that compel both the living and the dead.

Outside of Rowling, Garth Nix is the best YA fantasy author.
