I was giving out free .pdfs of my books to anons who were interested when I first published it, and had a lot of success with that. word of mouth actually turned out to be the best way to generate actual sales for me, and get some honest and insightful feedback.

getting people to read has definitely been a challenging and entirely different process than just the writing, but it hasn't been a failure. ultimately I think the only thing that will KEEP people interested, is to keep putting out good material, which is why I've been focusing more on my next project, and less on advertising.
