And how do you "stand upright among the ruins"? By dying without a religion when your whole worldview is based on the sacred?
>muh Evola practiced magic and shit
the UR group died after a few years and Evola was desperate to find initiation in both western and eastern traditions. He admited that he was asking Guenon to tell him if there are any initiatic organizations left in the West and he was also interested in moving to India for kashmir shaivism.
You may like his books for aesthetics or whatever but his life was a total failure. This should make you reconsider his ideas.

Evola is alright but one should really read René guenon because he's basically taking every one of his best ideas from him. He was also frequently accused of plagiarism, not from Guenon but various authors as well.

The sad thing, however, is that when you read him you realize the fascists who claim to have read him haven't at all, or they greatly misunderstood him. The weak porn-addicted /pol/tards who never leave their basement are the furthest thing from a differenciated man, and rallying under a new populist movement does few things to change it, quite the contrary.

Read him and find out, you have to have a certain predisposition before reading him to actually 'get' him.

That "promethean spirit" you speak of only leads to destruction whereas "stagnation" means plenitude and perpetuity. Just like Atlantide (if you believe in that) and Rome and the current west, revolting kshatriya only lead people to destruction.

It's sad Evola is mostly read by LARPers who want to reclaim the west or something.

Evola basically copied almost all of Guenon's ideas but did a worse job of explaining them, hence the eternal 3 times a week "I don't get RATMW, what does he mean by Tradition?" threads. If you think it's somehow a flaw that Guenon became a Sufi and took an interest in Islamic thought than I'm interested in how you reconcile that with Evola writing half a dozen books about eastern religions and generally preferring them over Christianity. Do you only have a problem with it when it's Islam or is it okay when Evola "cucks himself" by slavishly writing about how Hinduism and Tantra is super based. If you actually read the primary texts instead secondhand summaries you'd find that Sufism mostly agrees with the stuff Evola was into anyway btw.

Some people enjoy Guenon more than Evola, Guenon does discuss a lot of stuff that Evola never wrote about in depth like Vedanta and Sufism and how they align with a bunch of other teachings and texts. If you are interested in a more in-depth examination of purely metaphysical doctrines without any political or racial ideas involved, and an examination of how they align with various religions/cultures then Guenon is better IMO.

>I've never found a counter-argument to Evola
He got most of his ideas from Guenon's writings but to some extent applied them to different areas of interest. There are a number of things that I think Evola could be fairly criticized for, the first was that he was at times a rather sloppy scholar who made basics mistakes, for example in the early days in a review of Guenon's 'Man and His Becoming According to the Vedanta' that he published he accused Guenon of thinking that Daoism wasn't 'orthodox' when in fact throughout the book Guenon cites Daoist texts like the Zhuangzi to show how they align with Vedanta. In 'Revolt' Evola also misinterpreted/misread parts of the Vedas to support his idea of the warriors being supreme over the priests, when Coomaraswamy and others pointed out these errors the offending passages were removed in later editions, although to be fair Guenon also occasionally changed his mind and edited out stuff in later editions as well. Some other criticisms that occasionally come up are that Evola's idea of Buddhism actually being somehow reactionary/elitist is totally laughable, it was revolutionary in many aspects and had the effect of upending traditional institution such as caste and social hierarchy, there are other things too but to outsiders not familiar with the view each person took on each eastern philosophy and culture it seems like a bunch of autistic semantics.

>I imagine arguing against the fucking caste system wouldn't be THAT hard.
It is unless you want to resort to egalitarian rhetoric, it actually was not that bad, once you begin to research it you find that all the lower castes had their own benefits, rights and cults and most major Hindu thinkers criticized mistreating/abusing people on the basis of caste. It was basically a way of enshrining, dignifying and adding a divine context to the normal relation between clergy, lord and farmers/traders that existed in every pre-modern society. One could easily argue that the middle castes and lower ones down until the untouchables (and the lowest caste + sub-castes were always a fairly small % of pop) had many more rights than Tibetian or Russian serfs for example, and in some cases had better or equivalent lives to the western European peasant throughout much of history.
