Warhol rejected it as the play was so pornographic and licentious that he believed it was a set-up by the police (assuming obscenity laws were less relaxed than today). Following the rejection, Valerie Solanas believed that Warhol had begun discreetly plagiarising her work, incorporating aspects of Up Your Ass into his own oeuvre without credit and that’s why she attempted to murder him.
