This comment always struck me as bitter, non-relating to younger people and antagonizing.

Similar to what you say. While Fisher gives an explanation or likely reasoning, he at the same time seems to antagonizing those "victims of capitalism" to their behaviour. This isn't a criticism of his analysis, but this bitterness calls his write into question for me, because of it.
