What are some generally well written books (pre-21st century) that never make top 100 lists?

Robert E. Howard is a good reddit-repelling fantasty author because many of his stories are too politically incorrect for the modernist mind of the average redditor (they usually prefer the more PC Conan stories wrote by following authors).
But if you want the true Reddit fantasy filter, check for E. R. Eddison's works. His style is pretty much the opposite of what their fantasy writing subreddits consider "true fantasy writing"

Try The Worm Ouroboros by E R Eddison, maybe?

I read The Worm Ouroboros a few months ago and fell in love with it. It reminded me of a shorter and more grand Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
This has piqued my interest in other books from near that time;
Beyond the Fields We Know and other works by Lord Dunsany
The Night Land and The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson


I was wondering if anybody could offer me any other suggestions for a list.

It's not that vidya is inherently bad. It's that the concepts that make for a good game are very different than the concepts that make for a good story, but many contemporary authors don't realize this because their primary exposure to the genre is video games.

The Worm Ouroboros is the pinnacle of high fantasy. Everything that's come afterwards pales in comparison.
