/lit/ - Literature

Are there any books that have a protagonist going on an adventure with other people he meets along the way, finding true friendship as he saves the world, makes a lot of money, and perhaps finds true love? It's common in vidya (most JRPGs) but I don't know about books. I guess Fellowship of the Ring is the closest to that, but even then the "Fellowship" breaks apart in the same book, with one permanently dead and the remaining eight never really regroup again.

I still wonder if there's a link between the way American high schools teach literature and then wonder why the education system produces plebs and halfwits who think that the Harry Potter series and Ready Player One are examples of good writing.
