I was on various prescription, amphetamines, mostly dexamp, for four years of college and two years after it.
For me, they made it much easier to focus on nonfiction reading but harder to focus on fiction. On amps, the technical becomes way more interesting; reading about math, computing, and science becomes more engaging than ever before. But when reading a novel, one becomes bored and yearns for the end of the page; one thinks, "why am I doing this when I have to do X and Y and finish Z?" Granted this isn't the case for everyone, but most would probably agree. Can't recommend speed for retaining and deeply pondering fiction, but if you need to slog through a bunch of a novel for coursework it's not bad.

I know you didn't ask for this but if you're just getting into the stim game here's some advice for taking care of yourself and ensuring the most positive, sustainable use:
>Drink water, more than you think you need
>Limit caffeine unless you have unusual tolerances or need coffee/tea for other purposes
>Avoid fruit, juice, and strongly acidic food/drink until you're past the crest of the day; acids greatly interfere with amp processing in the body by speeding up excretion, which is bad in the morning but desirable when you want the stimulant out of your system later.
>Take a few modest supplements. You don't need to spend a ton or get anything experimental. Antioxidants: some of the good ones are vitamin E, selenium, astaxanthin, ashwaganda, ALCAR, idebenone; there are many others.Take decent fish oil and a multivitamin with the fat-soluble ones. Magnesium in the evenings is nice, as it counters damage from the stim and is also depleted by it. Aspirin is super cheap and protects the heart very nicely, but be wary of mixing it with other blood thinners.
>Appetite will be suppressed. Nuts are a good snack, enough calories and nutrients to tide you over without being oppressively filling.
>If you work out, you can do well and feel great on speed, but you absolutely need to watch your heart rate, drink water, and not overexert yourself.
>Take at least one day off a week from the drug. Your body will thank you.
>Set a schedule for yourself in advance. Without structure, it's easy to find yourself spending the whole day playing vidya or doing something else more immediately enticing than your work. Can help to have someone else ensure you spend your time well.
>Do your best to avoid all-nighters; with speed in you they're even less sustainable than sober. Your sleep is very important.
>Don't be alarmed if it feels like the med loses effectiveness. It will continue to be helpful even if the feeling of achievement is lessened.
>If you smoke cigs, on speed you'll probably go through them quicker than usual
Take care, OP. Hope some of this is useful.
