>Moreover, the realm of poetry is unlimited. Beneath the real world, there is an ideal world, resplendent to the eye of those accustomed by serious meditation to seeing in things more than things. The fine works of poetry of every kind, whether in verse or prose, which have graced our century, have revealed this truth, scarcely suspected before, that poetry is not in the form of ideas, but in the ideas themselves. Poetry is everything that is intimate in everything.

Based Victor Hugo poetically destroying modern epistemology at only 20 years old.

He is just so bad it's good.
He just gives zero fucks. About anything. At all.
He is my role model and I aspire to be like him. Unironically.
The ultimate gigachad writer.

Is he in the same tier as Stendhal, Balzac and Flaubert? Can't finish Les Miserableness, I'm really trying but I'm not sure if i can go on...

I've read a lot of the other French novelists and I'm really into romanticism, but Hugo is quite boring desu

>Aeschylus is the ancient mystery become man. Something like a pagan prophet. His work, had we all of it, would be a sort of Greek Bible. A hecatoncheires poet, having an Orestes far more fatal than Ulysses, a far more immense Thebes than Troy, hard like rock, tumultuous like foam, filled with steep cliffs, torrents and precipices, and so giant that, sometimes, you could say he becomes a mountain. Having arrived later than Homer, one could still say he was Homer's ancestor.
