Have you ever read a book and imagined the characters in it as animated? Either in anime style or in the manner of Western cartoons.

I'm a big fan of animation so when I read I often picture the scene playing out as a cartoon in my head.

Fucking love these books. Love Wolfe. I love Wolfe even more because through Wolfe I discovered Borges, and now I love BOTH of them. They're both major influences on my own writing.

Well, >>21971273 is going to be happy, because it's science fiction. Rather soft sci-fi, though; not a lot of technical details, but more fantastical and otherworldly. Set in the far future, a world filled with lots of strange things.

It's also a very Christian story, a Catholic story, subtly so at first but becoming more overt later on. It makes heavy use of metaphysical and theological concepts; these getting put into practice are how some of my characters are able to do the fantastical things they do. It's actually a very character-driven story, in general, despite its high concepts; I've tried to depict my characters inside and out, and the story is largely a journey at this point, all of them wandering this strange far future world and encountering strange things, all the while there is slow motion towards a grand climax, and the salvation of their souls hangs in the balance.

It gets violent at times, too, and there's even sexual content. Sometimes it's ugly, sometimes it's beautiful, and I try to depict both of those to the fullest extent. So it's "Christian sci-fi," but it's less A Canticle For Leibowitz and more Book Of The New Sun.

It's a lot of fun to write. I feel like I could write these characters and their journey the rest of my life. But I do have an ending in mind, though it will take a while to get there.

On a unrelated note in really happy no one has decided to rape Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun series But its probably only a matter of time before they get to it

I've read The Book of the New Sun and The Fifth Head of Cerberus. Where to next? The Wizard Knight? The Latro books? Peace?

In my heart of hearts, I know these two things are connected.

So it's just one guy posting all these anti-BOTNS threads, right? Or it's a bunch of people glomming onto a meme. Seeing them all in a row like this has basically made it clear that I shouldn't take them seriously, because the people making the threads obviously don't take them seriously.

It means that the normal frame of reference through which you experience the story and its characters is not trustworthy. As a result, all the information which you receive from the narrator you must check against those things which the narrator seems to miss, or which he does not tell you. It makes human point-of-view, which we are used to seeing as reliable, a matter of intense subjectivity, much as it is in real life.

Would BOTNS be classified as a modern, or a postmodern work? I feel like the destruction of the reliability of the narrator is pretty modernist.
