>"...there actually are other languages, languages quite different from ours. Latin, for example, and French. We have French and Latin books, and there are passages in the Writings in those languages, which makes them of interest to scholars and even to ordinary augurs like me. Presumably there are cities in which those languages are spoken just as we speak Vironese here."
Doesn't this imply that the era of Typhon is in the recent future? Typhon stocks the Whorl and compiles the Chrasmologic Writings, and he uses French and Latin to do so. And the Whorl itself is in space for a little over three hundred years, so we go from the Earth of Typhon, practically the present day, to Blue and Green. I know Wolfe likes accelerated evolution but that's more accelerated than I thought.

Can anyone recommend me some "Literary" inclined Fantasy books? I don't really like the mainstream Sandersoy and Malazan huge-ass world-building and complex magic systems shit. I wanna read Fantasy books in the vein of Tolkien, Mervyn Peake, Wolfe and Le Guin.

Also no Rothfuss and R. Jordan, please.

Book of New Sun, Long Sun and Short Sun by Gene Wolfe. Didnt really make me embrace it straight away but rather showed me the path.

>A friend of mine learned to read Turkish. And he got hold of a Turkish joke book and read it. And I said, 'What were the jokes like?' He said it was horrible. They were all about ugly tricks that were being played on blind people and things like that. This is what we have escaped from, and we don't realize that it is there and we came very close to falling into it. We very easily could have, and we still may.
