How could someone drop the ball so hard with a book like this? Spring Snow and Runaway Horses were great, but this book so far has just been Honda going about on business trips, sperging about Buddhism and hanging out at his rural house with a bunch of degenerate freaks and spying on people having sex through a peephole in the wall. I think I get what Mishima’s trying to do here but it feels pretty low quality in comparison to the first two so far. I’m assuming the point is the fact that Honda is a pathetic, aging and passive sack of shit in a fucked up post-war Japan but I feel like I’m either being pleb-filtered or it truly not well written

It wasn't really the politics that i found interesting in "The Sailor", and to be honest i don't think his politics is that interesting compared to his views on masculinity, destiny and his general "Herostratusness" which i found more interesting.
