Based on the works you mentioned, it's obvious that you have a very narrow, US-centric view of contemporary media and literature. To answer your question, it's "hard to find" if you insist on restricting your search field to works that are widely known in American mass media.

The obvious example of a fiction writer who criticizes contemporary society is Michel Houellebecq. He is the most obvious one, because he directly and plainly addresses issues of politics, identity, religion, sex, etc. But there are many other contemporary writers who criticize contemporary society in a more oblique way (pic related).
