I realized this in a mystical dream I had a few nights ago. The self is empty. It can contain things inside of itself, but it is void by nature. Without content it is essentially nothing. So how can you know yourself? The self can contain itself as a representation, idea, and so forth, as Kant would say. But true self-awareness, the self becoming consciousness of what it is and not what it thinks it is, is only possible when self-representation is emptied out. What does self-knowledge consist of then? Nothing, because self-knowledge is identical to the self, and the self is nothing. It need take no action to know itself because it already knows itself, being identical to what it is, as surely as A=A.

Laozi should be the mascot of /lit/. only wrote something after a guard literally blocked his pathway to retirement bliss and was too old to fuck him up.

It sometimes irks me to read translated books because i feel like something significant is lost when a work is translated. Anyone know this feel?
