Read the first few when I was in middle/high school and bingeing on fantasy and romance. When I heard the last books were getting published at once, I figured I'd finish it for old times sake.

The main characters are, by book 9, OP mary sues/gary stus, and I hate them both, but I almost think the author has accounted for that because the ending seems to be legitimately building towards the world ending and the author has said it's far from a happy ending. So I like that I get to watch the shitty star-crossed lover characters from my youth being ripped apart and failing at protecting the world.

Can we have a thread about that feeling when a series thats been with you for a large chunk of your life finally ends? I find that the quality of the ending actually doesn't matter that much, just the fact that it has ended.

This series was sometimes silly, sometimes derivative, sometimes melodramatic to an extreme, but there were a lot of great moments and after 17 years its finally over.
