But yeah Christianity had nothing to do with it... The fact that suddenly all your ancestors were thought to be devil worshipers and therefore pride in their accomplishments was now deemed unwholesome. 900 years of thinking that the gods played in integral role in the prosperity of the empire was suddenly rejected. All around you the ancient temples, statues and shrines were being torn down. Festivals that had been celebrated for hundreds of years was outlawed or became a hazard to attend as Christians had a habit of showing up and throwing acid in peoples faces. The Altar of Victory was removed. Great debates in the Church was raging over whether one have to be a pacifist to be a good Christian. Church Fathers and saints in their orations was telling people not to concern themselves with this kingdom because their kingdom was of the next world.
