Read something on the border between 'recent stuff' and 'grand and epic' like the Hobbit, which is a modern classic modelled on ancient mythological and archetypal themes. Go back to the basics. My dad read that book to me as a child and it sparked a love of literature which I enjoyed studying in school. Just my suggestion, best of luck with your readings anon.

>been almost 15 years since I first read LotR
>just finished reading The First Law trilogy, decided to take a trip down memory lane before digging in to Malazan
>pick up Fellowship of the Ring
>really slow pace, clunky dialogue, exaggerated reactions, nothing like I remembered
>abandon Gandalf and Frodo while still in the Shire, while I contemplate existence

Am I a bad person, /sffg/?
