Is the introduction in the Fitzgerald version of the Illiad sufficient for someone like me who knows very little bout the origin of ancient greece, or should I supplement with something else, perhaps the Fagles introduction?

kek, my flatmate is like this. It's actually frustrating to have any kind of discussion past 'when does the milk go off?' because it always seems to fall down to this embarrassing shit 'oh woe is me life is hard and I'm a half-baked materialist who watches a couple of youtube videos and all that's left to do is sit and mope"

My professor told me that people are getting dumber because fewer people are reading and instead TikTok and Twitter have taken over. Is this true?

I will have some difficulty to explain my thoughts. But have we not a common predisposition to certain ideas? A silent concept of being that stablishes the plexus of possibilities of our comprehensions.

I tried listing examples, but I don't think it was clear enough, so I erased. People keep talking about the same things, such as, for example, universal consciousness, it's not even esoteric anymore. Podcasts from my country have no idea of their own, but are just a copy (translation) of what is international. I don't think popular positions such as materialism and idealism are so distant to each other anymore, they must have a common root.

Best example. The other day I had to listen to a presentation on sustainable development by a philosopher, totally unrelated to the cursus I'm doing (math), but it was an event the class had to attend. Just in the beginning, I already knew the conclusion of the presentation, I knew his whole ontology. Sadly I don't quite remember the presentation in details, so I can't explain how I knew he was a modern (plus liberal leaning, believer in the human rights, etc...).

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Can you share thoughts?

I'm reading Edward Gibbon once more because I forgot some important details, that I need to memorize. Jesus save me.
