I never cease to be amazed at the profoundness of this revelation. To capture the pure genius of this quote you have to know a thing or two about morality and mechanics of human conflicts. Fundamentally there are two ways of solving conflicts between people
>by force
or
>by an appeal to a third party which both agents recognize as a moral authority
Obviously God in this model is just the ultimate authority kind of like the Judges of the Supreme Court in one spirit-person therefore an appeal to God-given laws is an ultimate appeal and God always has the last word in moral disputes. The fallacy of the Enlightenment was to imagine an authority without a person i.e. make depersonalized Reason into an authority. This doesn't work and indeed cannot work because Reason becomes weaponized, it divides itself into many different t reasons like in the famous dictum of the sophists "man is the measure of all things" and thus we simply go back to the earlier stage of solving moral conflicts by brute force except now with a more subtle weaponry. Are there any books that further discuss the impossibility of an atheistic morality?

They are the only atheists with an honest/logical view on morality.

Ok bros, if you agree with this quote, you would essentially have to admit that either there is no objective morality or that YOUR religious doctrine is the true word. The only other possibility is that god still exists and you have no idea what he wants or god doesn't give a shit.

it's because everyone wanted to be God at the same time; and thus fashioned themselves petty gods with their own subjective truths at the expense of the grander absolute Truth.

Man wanted to fight his Old Man for keys to the car; so the Old Man let him drive and watched him crash so that the son learned his lesson on why he is the Old Man.
In the end, God fixes up the car and the demigod children get pa-pa-power wheels till they learn responsibility of godhood and the verisilimitudinal direction of truth along the spectrum.

Some truths are more truer than others. Ergo God.

I'm an atheist and I honestly don't know how to answer this. Without a divine authority, how do we escape moral nihilism/relativism?
Have any atheists provided serious answers to this issue?

We fully embraced materialism and liberalism. Of course this would be the retarded teleology of such an outcome.
We killed absolute God and we sought to make ourselves petty gods. However, the material world arbitrary and ever-changing so the only material gods it will produce (and our epistemology) will also be arbitrary and ever-changing.

Materialism and Liberalism are a dead-end when it comes to philosophy. We're moving further and further away from Truth; none of this extra-material and "liberation" from the Truth was worth it.

What a pathetic thread.
You'll never craft a god out of materialism.
