I've been wanting to know about this too. Are there any books explaining things like why Christ had to be sacrificed? I remember seeing a video explaining it logically in two different ways and I'd like to know more about the Bible and how theologians interpret different stories from it. I tried looking at the /lit/ wiki, and it's ass so I couldn't find anything on the subject.

What if eros were a buck-passing game? What if love were a game played according to the rules of the curse from the Japanese horror film Ringu? (Whoever watches the cursed video tape dies in seven days unless the tape is copied and “passed” to someone else. The name ‘Ring’ has the double meaning of a telephone ring—un glas, a death knell—and of a coterie that involves itself in an illicit activity.) And what if the entirety of the field called culture were the side-effect of an elaborate attempt to conceal the exploitative nature of this ring game? What then?

Let us suppose that this is the case, because that is precisely what psychoanalysis teaches us. Psychoanalysis teaches that, according to the rules of the ring game—rules that can only be defined by a constellation of meaning that includes virus and scapegoat—the ‘buck’ that gets passed from generation to generation is death anxiety. The child is the scapegoat and civilization is the elaboration of a scapegoat ritual.

Now the automatic reaction to this hypothesis is that it is deemed excessively cynical. The hypothesis seems—seems—to have its origin in an exceedingly pessimistic interpretation of life generally. It is said that the ring hypothesis is a form of the denial or devaluation of life.

But further reflection reveals that the acceptance of the truth of the ring would be the most life-affirming gesture of all because it would be the realistic theory (and I cannot stress enough how realistic it is) of the existence of what might be called archē-evil (where evil is interpreted as scapegoating), and therefore the supreme mode of acceptance of the burden of infinite possibility.

In other words I propose, as a secular alternative to Nietzche’s eternal recurrence hypothesis (which is still far too superstitious), the much more plausible (and for the same reason much more radical) hypothesis of an apocalypto-existential sex ring. And I thus read Freud and Lacan as the true inheritors of the tradition of moral theory that includes Nietzsche and Christ.
