Find an university's Philosophy curriculum and class syllabus then read the required books. Ideally you should begin with Plato since he is very heavily referenced. If you are doing it for personal enjoyment and not for academic reasons you don't need to constrain to a linear or historical pathway. Forcing yourself to read things you don't want to or are not ready to read is a good way to wind up reviling philosophy.
You could also listen to the History of Philosophy podcast from the very start and read the referenced works if they pique your interest.

Hope that helps!

I am an economic student but hat is called the "time preference" is not an argument for me. It is rather phenonenological than purely logical...
I don't understand how one cold cope with both ideas....
Am I being retarded or is this a feeling everyone live with ?

Really? You can't think of a single potential world that's in some way better?

People die all the time tragically. If a person didn't die tragically instead, wouldn't that obviously be a better world?

>The depiction of Atticus in “Watchman” makes for disturbing reading, and for “Mockingbird” fans, it’s especially disorienting. Scout is shocked to find, during her trip home, that her beloved father — who taught her everything she knows about fairness and compassion — has been affiliating with raving anti-integration, anti-black crazies, and the reader shares her horror and confusion. How could the saintly Atticus — described in early sections of the book in much the same terms as he is in “Mockingbird” — suddenly emerge as a bigot?

It's gonna be hilarious to see the reactions of people to this.

ur a faget

i read that book front to back in highschool and yes it can be a bit long; but when you see how their lives all tangle together in the eve of the rebellion its all worth it.

Supply and demand. There's no incentive to switch from oil because relatively speaking it's cheap and is Good Enough™ to get things done.

Realistically, we have several alternatives already available to replace oil, with ethanol representing the most likely short term replacement since it already works in existing cars on the road.

It generally isn't used now because oil is cheaper to import, ethanol increases food prices by diverting sugarcane and corn from the market, and has negative geopolitical effects in developing nations, in which farmland which was once used for food to be sold and eaten locally is converted to fields of cash crops to be sold overseas.

However, if oil supplies dwindle, it will become more expensive, further extraction will be prohibitively expensive, and negative externalities of biofuels and other fuels will have smaller relative impacts. At this point, you're likely to see a gradual, and I believe generally painless, transition from oil: no lofty ideals or high minded ethics, just a number of fields saying "It's cheaper and more convenient for us to switch".

Joseph. Motherfucking. Conrad.
>Heart of Darkness taught in every high school in america
>novella format, which occasionally aids the story
>steeped in obvious imagery about mans brutality towards man
>MUH BLACKS BEING SAVAGELY EXPLOITED
>pretty 8/10 read

>Secret Agent
>calm and long form prose
>brilliantly plotted, with details of the setting expanded so richly that the foggy english cityscape acts as a characterization for all the nebulousness of Verloc's motives and relationships
>sparkling dialogue for the age in which it was written
>truly heartbreaking ending

picture somehow related, because Cartesianism.
