he never implied that, only that he used his discretion to put the most reliable versions of what happened. You can claim that he is inherently biased, but to assume he has a sinister motive with no proof is just being cynical

>slow hours at the office
>do fucking nothing all day

If I fuck around on the phone, that's more or less accepted, but if I decide to read a book, that's too blatant. So instead of actually getting some reading done, I'm forced to spend my time doing boring, vapid shit like reading twitter and facebook.

Which is bullshit, I'll never finish Gravitys Rainbow at this pace.

So /lit/, you've written a book.

On the outset of your journey, you had specific metaphors, ideas, and situations you'd like explored -- "patrician elements" if you will. You'd at first made it too obvious for your liking, so you intentionally rewrote it more vaguely. While increasing the ambiguity, you felt more details, stories, interconnectedness, etc needed to be added not only to facilitate the ambiguous nature of the novel, but to add what you'd previously stripped and therefore make it whole again. This process continued until you were satisfied with the final product.

Triumphantly, you sit back and admire your completed work, knowing this time you had it right -- everything was in its right place.

After reading your own novel, you collapse in your chair, dejected; you've made what appears to be YA. Aside from a few obvious scenes of more adult subject matter, slightly more complex prose, and an overall "darker" tone, this appears to be mostly YA fiction. If you are to give yourself the utmost credit, it is something in between YA and "real" literature.

The more "patrician" elements are still there, only they're so convoluted now that you wonder if others are able to pick up on them instead of pretending it's just YA. You see the ideas and metaphors you were creating, but you wonder if anyone else will. It's a 50/50 shot, really; they can read it as YA and see it only as that, or they can pick up on it and maybe, just maybe, not attribute the semblance of literary value your novel has to luck.

How do you feel about this /lit/? Are you proud of your work knowing that what you put into it might either go unrecognized or discredited? You still try to get it published, right? Do you boot up an early, early draft and start again? Do you an hero?

Can you recommend the best books to your knowledge for self-improvement?

Not self help shit, but books that are gonna help me improve or expand my way of thinking, books which would make me more knowledgeable of the world around me and the things living in it, both physically and mentally. Just stuff to challenge and better yourself as a human being.
