Foucault was a Pedophile? Still don't understand why. Their philosophy in no way justifies this decision. So either people who discredit their works on the grounds of pedantry understand very little of their thought, or just seek to judge them personally. It's like judging a piece of art differently because you found out the artist hated midgets. Not only is it a reductionist way of looking at things, it seeks it negate a more nuanced understanding of their thought.

>>>you cannot completely separate the artist from the art
I'll reiterate, I just dont see the coloration between a philosophers thought on a topic and their sexual disposition. It affects their opinions on logical topics insubstantially at best.

The substance of a job must align with a societal need for it's existence and must also satisfy your disposition. More nuanced jobs that create a break from repetition and offer a constructive way of generating meaning are tailored for intellectuals, whereas most average people who don't have any moral or ontological ambiguity, who simply exist for hedonistic pleasure, are more than comfortable to work just for wealth, albiet a form or structure of production. Life works quite well if you have a good grasp of your own qualities and predilections. There's not much more to say.

This. The main body of Foucault's work is aimed towards debunking the concept of "progress" and revealing that societally, the suffering that it strives to eliminate has a set or at least uncontrollable value that can neither be added to or subtracted from. Everywhere progressive ideology makes a perceived advance, nothing fundamentally changes or can be changed. He displayed this regarding penal systems in Discipline and Punish, how we handle the insane in Madness and Civilization, our feelings towards sexuality in The History of Sexuality, etc.
whoever doubts this would probably consider this video too simple to understand, but it nonetheless displays this point quite effectively.

Why do the alphabet people like this guy? Didn't he write a four volume book arguing that the emergence of "sexuality" as a discursive object and separate sphere of life and the notion that every individual has a sexuality is a relatively recent development in Western societies? Seems kinda contradictory.
