Have you ever read anything like TDT, except written by a better author? By that, I mean a book or saga about the pursuit of the absolute nexus of existence (the Tower), with similar themes of heroism, destiny and so on?

I really like pic related. I even enjoyed the books that came after Wizard and Glass.
I wish I could find another book or series that could give me the same feeling.

Spent a literal year reading The Dark Tower series because it was so horrible.
One of the most dishonest piece of literature I've ever read.

What are some GOOD sci-fi or fantasy book series that are a good time sink while remaining intriguing or "fun?" Preferably audiobooks as my commute to work is an hour and a half.

I've read the synopsis on wikipedia on all books and it really seems like an incoherent mess... basically it seems that at each chapter a new "random" thing is going on and that there is no coherence to the world, like King threw up every conceivable idea possible in the book.

Is it really like that or is it worth reading?
For instance in the book do they ever explain the lore / setting etc? or do they ever explain why Roland is looking for the dark tower?
or why the tower sends him back in time at the end?

I need a new fantasy series to start. Is The Dark Tower worth reading?

Did /lit/ enjoy it? I've read quite a few books from King, Duma Key being my favorite.

I finished reading The Dark Tower some time ago. It kinda left me speechless. What a great series of books!

Sad Thing is that I'll propably never find anything that is even close the brilliance of The Dark Tower.
